How long is each session?

The duration of each session is approximately 50 to 60 minutes.

How long will treatment take?

In most situations, four to six sessions will be sufficient. Progress will be monitored throughout the process of therapy and decisions will be made in consultation with you regarding ongoing treatment.

A thorough cognitive assessment takes about four or five hours. This can be scheduled all on one day with a break in the middle or over a number of days. When the assessment has been completed, Pat will interpret the results and write a comprehensive report.

What occurs in between treatment sessions?

At the end of each session, you will be provided with a homework assignment in order to consolidate new learning and skills. The homework assignment will be based on the issues and information discussed during the session.

Are Medicare and Private Health Fund rebates available?

In order to access rebates from Medicare, a referral is required from your doctor. Your doctor will complete a Mental Health Care Plan (Item number 2710) which will entitle you to a rebate from Medicare of $119.80 (as at November 1, 2010) per session for up to 12 sessions in a calendar year.

Alternatively, partial reimbursement may be available through private health insurance. You are encouraged to contact your health insurer to determine the amount of coverage you will receive for psychology services.

Pat can discuss these options with you to determine the best type of reimbursement.
